RECUMBENT CYCLING BY OPTIMA AT TESTCENTER LAURENT FIGNON 2010 Since 2009 Optima offers the possibility to try out its model range at the Laurent Fignon Center in the Pyrenees mountains. Yes, up in the mountains, we are not afraid. In 2010 the complete range is available for free testing (except Rider). You can test the bikes on the cycling space around the center which has a 500 meter loop around the hotel, in total security on private road. If you wish to take out our bikes outside the center this becomes a rental. You can take them for a roll on the beautiful Campan Valley roads, or uphill in the direction of the Aspin or the Tourmalet climb, for the toughest testers. steep climbs are to be found right up the hills near the center. The testcenter is right in the middle of a crossroad of mythical mountains that played a keyrole in the Tour de France. The Tourmalet where Schleck failed to outsmart Contador is only 15 miles away. We are very grateful to Laurent Fignon as this is certainly not a financial interesting operation in anyway. After sympathising on several cycle exhibitions where the Optima and Fignon team were neighbours, Laurent wished to open his center to other styles of cycling, whilst we enjoyed the idea of having our recumbents in the midst of great classic brands in the heart of a tradional cycle area. Laurent Fignon died in august 2010 at the age of 50 after a 2 year struggle with cancer. His career, his personality and his figth with the disease is a lesson of life to all. This testcenter has been arranged by the double Tour de France winner as a training hotel for cyclists who wish to profit from his legendary cyclist's exerpience, using theory and practice courses by the team of monitors. The team, managed by Alain Laguerre , does not profess recumbent stages yet, but they can advice you on the best tours in the area for exercice, testing or scenery. The training center offers a hotel with full facilities and a very good restaurant with an extraordinary 3 course menu for a very affordable price. The hotel, the 'relais des pyrenées" has special rates for Optima riders who wish to spend the night. 71 euro for single with breakfast (88 euro for double). For half pension (dinner 3 course) the price is 91 euro for single occupancy and 128 for double.
